To paraphrase, Ronald Reagan, “There you go again.”

President Barack Obama has made a career out of spinning tall tales when it comes to his early years. His book, Dreams from my Father, has a number of inaccuracies. Today he continued in that great tradition of obfuscation, that he has mastered so well.

Near the beginning of his speech to the schoolchildren of America he says, “When I was young, my family lived in Indonesia for a few years, and my mother didn’t have the money to send me where all the American kids went to school. So she decided to teach me extra lessons herself, Monday through Friday – at 4:30 in the morning.”

As the parent of two successful home-schooled daughters, I like the sound of his mother teaching him at home. The reality of his situation was different however. It looks like the President took another opportunity to cloud the issue of his early years, rather than clarify.

To read his words, it sounds like it were he and his mother against the world, when in reality, he was living a comfortable middle class existence with his mother, and his step-father, Lolo Soetoro, who was a government employee and served as a government relations consultant with, Mobil Oil.

Barry Soetoro, (as the future President was known at that time) attended the Roman Catholic school, Fransiskus Assisis, where he was listed as a Muslim and as an Indonesian citizen. I wonder why he didn't mention that in his speech to the schoolchildren?

Ironically, a few years later, when he moved back to Hawaii, he was immediately enrolled in Punahou School, a private school that is one of the most prestigious and expensive in the United States. His half sister, Maya Kassandra Soetoro, also attended Punahou. So, it looks like the Soetoros were too poor to go to school in Indonesia, but not in the US.

What we have here, is an obvious attempt in this speech to spin a, “poor me” yarn about his early years. But who can blame him, so far it has worked wonderfully for him.

1. Americans have better survival rates than Europeans for common cancers. Breast cancer mortality is 52 percent higher in Germany than in the United States and 88 percent higher in the United Kingdom. Prostate cancer mortality is 604 percent higher in the United Kingdom and 457 percent higher in Norway. The mortality rate for colorectal cancer among British men and women is about 40 percent higher.

2. Americans have lower cancer mortality rates than Canadians. Breast cancer mortality in Canada is 9 percent higher than in the United States, prostate cancer is 184 percent higher, and colon cancer among men is about 10 percent higher.

3. Americans have better access to treatment for chronic diseases than patients in other developed countries. Some 56 percent of Americans who could benefit from statin drugs, which reduce cholesterol and protect against heart disease, are taking them. By comparison, of those patients who could benefit from these drugs, only 36 percent of the Dutch, 29 percent of the Swiss, 26 percent of Germans, 23 percent of Britons, and 17 percent of Italians receive them.

4. Americans have better access to preventive cancer screening than Canadians. Take the proportion of the appropriate-age population groups who have received recommended tests for breast, cervical, prostate, and colon cancer:

Nine out of ten middle-aged American women (89 percent) have had a mammogram, compared to fewer than three-fourths of Canadians (72 percent).

Nearly all American women (96 percent) have had a Pap smear, compared to fewer than 90 percent of Canadians.

More than half of American men (54 percent) have had a prostatespecific antigen (PSA) test, compared to fewer than one in six Canadians (16 percent).

Nearly one-third of Americans (30 percent) have had a colonoscopy, compared with fewer than one in twenty Canadians (5 percent).

5. Lower-income Americans are in better health than comparable Canadians. Twice as many American seniors with below-median incomes self-report “excellent” health (11.7 percent) compared to Canadian seniors (5.8 percent). Conversely, white, young Canadian adults with below-median incomes are 20 percent more likely than lower-income Americans to describe their health as “fair or poor.”

RHETORIC V. REALITY: HEALTH CARE BY ORWELL

President Obama's rhetoric last night summoned the memory of "1984," George Orwell's novel of a nightmarish future -- where the slogan of the rulers is "War is peace; freedom is slavery; ignorance is strength."

The president assures us that he will cut health-care spending. . .by adding $1 trillion to health-care spending.

He says that "health-care decisions will not be made by government". . .while he sets up a new Federal Health Board to tell doctors what treatments they can offer and to whom and under what circumstances.

Obama told the media, "I will free doctors to make good health-care decisions". . .by telling the physicians what to do.

When the president says he guarantees the "same coverage" to people who like their current health-insurance policies, he means that their current HMOs, insurers and doctors will be the ones to implement the protocols and instructions the government hands down to them -- not that we'll have our current freedom of decision-making.

When he blandly assures us that we will "stop paying for things that don't make us healthier," he really means that his Federal Health Board will overrule your doctor and stop him from using his own best judgment in your treatment.

The president will "get the politics out of health care" by putting it under government control.

Democrats are preventing Republican House Members from sending their constituents a mailing that is critical of the majority’s health care reform plan, blocking the mailing by alleging that it is inaccurate.

House Republicans are crying foul and claiming that the Democrats are using their majority to prevent GOP Members from communicating with their constituents.

Sneaky Colorado Dems Advance Bill To Grant In-state Tuition to Illegal Aliens

A Senate committee this morning approved a bill that would grant in-state tuition to illegal immigrants, an action that Republicans said was only possible through a sneaky maneuver by Democrats.

The Senate Appropriations Committee had been scheduled to take up the bill, Senate Bill 170, on Friday. However, Sen. Abel Tapia, D-Pueblo, earlier this week called a meeting of the committee for Wednesday, with the bill on the schedule.

Sponsored by Sen. Chris Romer, D-Denver, the bill would grant in-state tuition to any student who had attended a Colorado high school for at least three years and graduated, regardless of their immigration status.

The bill's prospects had looked grim heading into the Friday meeting. Though Democrats hold a 6-4 majority on the committee, Sen. Moe Keller, D-Wheat Ridge, had said she would be a no vote, likely making for a 5-5 tie, meaning the bill would have died.

But supporters of the bill caught a lucky break. Sen. Ted Harvey, a Republican from Highlands Ranch, last week said he would be out of town until Thursday to attend to family matters. Read more here.

I lived the first 44 years of my life in Michigan. In my younger (naive) days, I was involved in liberal Democrat politics. I was a county Democratic chairman, press secretary for a Democrat Congressman, and ran as a Democrat myself, for the state legislature.

I saw from the inside the damage that was being done to the state I love, by liberal policies that were anti-business and drove industry out of the state.

Worst of all was what has happened to the once great city of Detroit, an industrial power, unmatched in the world. Over the past few decades, the city has been run like a banana republic. Corrupt politicians with disastrous policies have driven it into the ground. Traveling through the city now, you encounter areas of a post apocalyptic landscape, dominated by crumbling industrial buildings, dilapidated homes and empty garbage strewn fields.

It is a shame and it breaks my heart to see it. We should all look at Michigan, and Detroit especially, as harbingers of the future, showing us what could happen to the rest of the country if we don't put a stop to the failed polices of liberal government.

I have had a tough time lately watching President Obama when he gives a speech. His head flies back and forth, left and right, like a person watching a ping pong match, as he reads off his omnipresent teleprompter. He even uses it to make minor announcements. It makes me dizzy just watching him.

Yep. The day after 9/11, as part of its "get tough" makeover, the Obama campaign is mocking John McCain for not using a computer, without caring why he doesn't use a computer. From the AP story about the computer illiterate ad:

"Our economy wouldn't survive without the Internet, and cyber-security continues to represent one our most serious national security threats," [Obama spokesman Dan] Pfeiffer said. "It's extraordinary that someone who wants to be our president and our commander in chief doesn't know how to send an e-mail."

Well, I guess it depends on what you mean by "extraordinary." The reason he doesn't send email is that he can't use a keyboard because of the relentless beatings he received from the Viet Cong in service to our country. From the Boston Globe (March 4, 2000):

McCain gets emotional at the mention of military families needing food stamps or veterans lacking health care. The outrage comes from inside: McCain's severe war injuries prevent him from combing his hair, typing on a keyboard, or tying his shoes. Friends marvel at McCain's encyclopedic knowledge of sports. He's an avid fan - Ted Williams is his hero - but he can't raise his arm above his shoulder to throw a baseball.

In a similar vein I guess it's an outrage that the blind governor of New York David Patterson doesn't know how to drive a car. After all, transportation issues are pretty important. How dare he serve as governor while being ignorant of what it's like to navigate New York's highways.

The mainstream liberal media have been so busy delving into the personal life of Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin, looking for dirt, that they have overlooked doing their real job, vetting the presidential candidates, especially their darling, Barack Obama.

It has taken the newspaper, Investors Business Daily, to finally do the work that the industry giants should be doing. IBD has begun to pull back the layers to look into the past (and present)of Barack and Michelle Obama's radical background.

Barack Obama was a founding member, and his wife, Michelle, executive director of Public Allies, a non profit organization which is basically a training ground for young radicals. Obama's goal is for this organization to be funded by the federal government. Public Allies, which sounds good on paper, is little more than a re-education camp.

What was found by the newspaper was enlightening.

Eisenhower Presidential Suite Dumped
Renamed Barack Obama Suite

The Brown Palace is the most famous hotel in Denver. Since 1905, it has hosted every president except Calvin Coolidge. A suite on the eighth floor, Room 825, is arguably one of the most historic hotel rooms in the Western United States. President Dwight David Eisenhower conducted the business of state from the suite in the summers in what became know worldwide as, “The Western White House.”

Ignoring over 50 years of tradition, the storied Brown Palace, has taken down the photos of President Dwight David Eisenhower in the hotel's renowned, Eisenhower Presidential Suite, and replaced the former president with photos of the presumed Democratic nominee, Barack Obama, and renamed it the Barack Obama Suite.

The move, that certainly looks to many, to be a crass attempt at financial gain and to curry favor with convention going Democrats, is a slap in the face to Republicans and conservatives who have supported the hotel over the years.

The Eisenhower Suite is not just a room that the president stayed in for one night. Eisenhower's, wife, Mamie Doud, grew up in Denver and every summer they would come back. According to the hotel's official history book, “The Brown Palace, Denver's Grand Dame,” the president and his wife, “were considered hometown folks.” They would stay six to eight weeks at a time in the suite, which was know to all, as the Western White House.

The former president liked to take practice golf swings in the suite and one of the real attractions is a dent in a fireplace mantel, from an errant golf ball, that is still displayed in the suite.

Shannon Dexheimer, public relations manager for The Brown Palace Hotel and Spa, recently explained that the reason for renaming the suite, was that the hotel, “wanted to do it to symbolize honoring him as the candidate for the Democrats, and honoring the fact that we played such a huge role 100 years ago when this convention (Democrat) was here last."

The hotel has four named suites, three presidential suites, the Eisenhower, Ronald Reagan, and Teddy Roosevelt, and a suite named for the Beatles in honor of their one night stay in the hotel in August, 1966. There are also several unnamed suites on the eighth and ninth floors of the hotel.

Why take a chance at angering half the voting public, by making the switch? Only the management at the Brown Palace can answer that, but the smart thing would have been to
temporarily turn one of several other unnamed suites into the Obama Suite.

What will be next with the Brown Palace? When Ashlee Simpson, next comes to the Mile High City, will they rename, the Beatles suite?

And you thought the Clintons would just slink away into the background. Don't count on it.

In the eyes of her supporters, Obama, is still just the, "presumptive" nominee. He hasn't officially won anything yet. The upcoming Democratic convention could be interesting. This time there might be as many unruly protesters inside, as there are outside the hall.

Obama Energy Policy, 'Inflate your tires.'

Sen. Obama, is great reading the teleprompter, but get him standing on his feet, talking without a script, and he continues to make ridiculous statements.

Here is the incredible statement he made July 29 in Springfield, Missouri. “There are things that you can do individually though to save energy; making sure your tires are properly inflated, simple thing, but we could save all the oil that their talking about getting off drilling, if everybody was just inflating their tires and getting regular tune-ups. You could actually save just as much.”

Imagine if Sen. McCain had said something this silly. It would have been featured on all the network news shows, newspaper columnists across the country would have howled about it, late night comedians would have joked about it for weeks. But, it was Sen. Obama, who said it, so no main stream media ridicule, no laughing, no nothing. You get the picture.

Is there any truth to what Obama says? Well, if everyone on the road was driving around with really underinflated tires, then inflating them properly would save a small amount of oil, but he says, "we could save all the oil that their talking about getting off drilling." That is pure nonsense.

The Democrats talk a good line when it comes to energy, but when it is time to do something, they turn out the lights and go on a five week vacation. Why? Because Speaker Nancy Pelosi, knows that if they actually hold votes on energy plans, some of her fellow Democrats, feeling pressure from the folks back home, would vote in favor of drilling and other energy policies that would actually make a difference.

She and her fellow travelers should be ashamed at pulling up stakes and going on vacation at this critical time.
